Cozy Up –Fall Décor Tips

When the air feels brisk and the leaves begin to change colors how do you create a cozy home?  Here are a few tips to cozy up with some fall décor tips. Try getting inspired as you prepare for a harvest of cozy up ambiance this autumn season.

Velvet for Fall

Luxuriously soft and irresistibly inviting, trending is velvet for fall. It’s ideal for crafting a cozy! To fully embrace the plush appeal of velvet I add layers to my sofa or chair with pillows and throws. Want to make it personal? Add a handmade knitted throw or an embroidered pillow. Autumn is the season of warm colors: from browns and yellows to reds and oranges. However, since velvet naturally displays warmth and comfort experiment with bold, cooler colors without compromising the cozy harvest fall vibe.

Candles

Who doesn’t love a romantic inviting atmosphere? As the nights become cooler and leaves begin to fall, candles add a romantic glistening to your home. They offer both soft lighting and a cozy, inviting atmosphere. Add a touch of elegance by placing a few decorative votives on the fireplace, dining room table, in bathrooms and around the kitchen. Who doesn’t love candles?

Table Settings

Want to create a cozy up rustic vibe for the Autumn season? In a wicker basket add collections of gourds, squashes, and branches mixed with votive candles to make the perfect addition to any table settings.  Everything tinted with deep tones will inspire a cozy mood. I love adding pumpkins and fall leaves on end and cocktail tables also to infuse my entire home with fall.

Modern Rustic

Modern Rustic focuses on natural elements and rugged wood. Could you imagine barn beams, antique handcrafted benches, natural textures like jute and sisal, and an abundance of wooden elements? Add warm colors, add some fall lights and autumn garland including decorative pumpkins, jack-o-lanterns, tabletop heirloom pumpkins, gourds and corn husks– be creative.

Retro Blend

More into a retro blend? Consider incorporating a touch of nostalgia into your home, it’s all about a combination. Combine the 70’s rich warm color palettes, such as mustard-and-honey yellows, millennial shades of pink, dramatic tones of red and lush greens. Include some vintage lanterns and vintage tchotchkes, giving your home an amazing personality and nostalgia for the richness and glory of years past.

Decorate Your Entrance

Nothing stands out better than a decorated entrance way, add assorted pumpkins, mums, gourds and corn stalks with lots of color sending out good fall vibes.

Happy fall and happy decorating!

Anticipating a Strong Fall Housing Market : Fed’s Meet 9/18

Optimism Grows as Fall Market Approaches

Optimism grows as our fall market approached. I’m anticipating a strong fall market. Mortgage rates have decreased overall this week according to Laura Grace Tarpley, Lead Editor and Content Strategist, Mortgages for Yahoo! Finance.

Mortgage Rates and the Upcoming Federal Reserve Decision

The next Federal Reserve meeting is on Sept. 18, when the central bank will announce whether it will drop the federal funds rate. The Feds are expected to cut mortgage rates as inflation cools down, but the question is: will it be by 25 or 50 basis points? The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics releases the July Consumer Price Index (CPI) report on Wednesday, 8/14, which will give us insight into inflation trends. If inflation is low, it could increase the chances of the Fed going for a 50-basis-point mortgage rate cut.

  • Interlocking foam mats: Easy to clean and ideal for various activities.
  • Laminate: Durable and easy to maintain.
  • Painted floor with decorative rug: Adds a personalized touch.

Creating a Cocoon Haven – Butterfly Garden

Here are some tips for creating a cocoon haven – butterfly garden. To guarantee a thriving environment in your garden and support the complete life cycle of caterpillars transforming into beautiful butterflies it’s crucial to incorporate a mix of host and plants for caterpillars and nectar plants for adult butterflies. Here are some gardening tips tailored to attract these enchanting creatures to your garden.

Start with Host Plants for Caterpillars:

  • Milkweed: This is essential for Monarch butterflies as it’s the sole host plant for their caterpillars
  • Parsley: A host plant for the Eastern Black Swallowtail, providing shelter and food for its caterpillars. Other plants in the carrot family, such as dill and fennel, can also serve as hosts.
  • Nettles: Nettles are host plants for various butterfly species, including the Red Admiral and Milbert’s Tortoiseshell. While they may seem like weeds, they play a fundamental role in supporting butterfly populations.
  • Violets: These are host plants for butterflies like the Great Spangled Fritillary and the Variegated Fritillary, providing nutrition for their caterpillars.

Then add Nectar Plants for Adult Butterflies:

  • Butterfly Bush: Varieties like ‘Black Knight’ and ‘Pink Delight’ are a popular choice for attracting butterflies with their fragrant flowers.
  • Purple Coneflower: Loved by many butterfly species, including the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the Silver-spotted Skipper, for its nectar-rich blooms.
  • Aster: Late-season bloomers like New England Aster provide essential nectar sources for butterflies preparing for migration.
  • Joe-Pye Weed: This tall perennial is a favorite of many butterfly species, including the Eastern Tiger Swallowtail and the Great Spangled Fritillary, offering ample nectar on its clustered flowers.

Include These Helpful Tips:

  • Provide Shelter: In addition to food plants, caterpillars also need shelter to feel safe and protected. Incorporate a variety of plant types, including shrubs and trees, to offer different levels of cover.
  • Maintain Habitat: Regularly maintain your garden by watering, weeding, and pruning as needed to keep plants healthy and thriving. Healthy plants are more likely to attract caterpillars and provide them with the nutrition they need.
  • Diversity: Aim for a diverse range of plants to attract a variety of butterfly species. Different butterflies have different preferences, so offering a variety of plants ensures you cater to a broader spectrum of species.
  • Avoid Pesticides: Pesticides can harm caterpillars and butterflies, so use organic gardening methods to keep your garden a safe place for them.

Finally, Observe and Learn:

Spend time observing caterpillars in your garden to learn more about their behavior and preferences. This will help you enhance your gardening skills to better support them.

By following these tips and planting a variety of host plants, you can create an inviting habitat for caterpillars and increase the chances of witnessing the magical transformation into butterflies in your own backyard.

Let’s garden together, I’m rooting for you.  Email LeeAnn or Call Me
